General Tournament
Information
The Barnes Tennis Center hosts a wide variety of
tournaments, from
Barnes Cup Round Robins and
Novice Round Robins to
Satellite Tournaments and
Junior USTA Sanctioned Open Tournaments .
Barnes Cup
Tournament are fun Round-Robin events designed to
introduce new players through the first stages of
competitive play. Tournament Directors provide
guidance and support to new participants in scoring,
the Code of Conduct, and sportsmanship.

USTA Novice Tournaments are more
structured one-day Round Robin events.
Novice tournament are sanctioned by the USTA
and will be run in accordance with USTA
rules and regulations. All entrants
must join the USTA and present a membership
card or number upon registration.
USTA Satellite Tournaments are
"single-elimination" events also sanctioned
by the USTA. The majority, (but not
all) of the players involved in satellites
have had some tournament experience.
Satellites are for players ranked below #50
in Southern California (or top 40 in the
10s.)
USTA Open
Tournaments, Southern California Open
Tournaments are the next level in the
progression of junior competition.
There are two levels of Open tournament -
those that offer Nation Ranking points are
one step stronger than those that do not.
2009 Barnes Center Open events include: Esme Pearson Memorial Designated (National
Level 5), Harper Ink (National Level 5), San
Diego Doubles (National Level 4), Maureen Connolly Memorial Tournament, Wilbur Folsom
Memorial
Tournament, Todd Short Memorial Tournament,
Thanksgiving Vacation Open and Homer Peabody
Holiday Junior Open. |
