How you can support Youth Tennis San Diego
Choose Where You Make an Impact
General Area of
YTSD impacts over 10,000 children/teens per year through a variety of outreach programs, camps, events, and scholarships. If you want to help us address "whatever comes up", we promise to "do good" with your donations. Past general donations have helped replace windscreens on court, repaired benches, cracks, and replaced lights, as well as provide supplemental equipment, techology updates, STEAM projects, and art supplies for camp. With a large public facility that attracts nearly 100,000 visitors annually, something always comes up.
Let's Play Clay
at the Barnes
We are raising funds to replace two clay courts (the only two that exist at a public facility in San Diego - perhaps in Southern California). We hope to get these done by Spring 2021 and incorporate them into all youth programming as well as adult play during non-peak hours. View the Clay Campagin Flyer here.

After School Tennis
Founded by Kathy Chabot Willette
YTSD's signature outreach to youth in underserved neighborhoods; we provide coaches, racquets, nets, permits, insurance, and positive mentorship during the critical after-school hours. Note: we are still able to provide this program on school blacktops and park and recreation facilities. AST is the point of entry for many of our juniors who go on to compete - some even play in college.
We provide scholarships for every junior program we run including After School Tennis, Junior Aces, tournament entry fees, equipment when needed, and winter and summer camps. It is at the heart of the YTSD mission to grow the sport of tennis and make it accessible for all use regardless of financial capabilities.
The Foundation raises/invests funds for current operations and the long-term sustainability of YTSD, and for Capital Campaigns.

About Youth Tennis San Diego
Thank you for stopping by to learn more about Youth Tennis San Diego and the Barnes Tennis Center!
YTSD is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose is to promote the educational, physical, and social development of all youth through organized tennis and educational activities. YTSD was formerly the San Diego Tennis Patrons, a grassroots organization first formed in 1953, by volunteers who wanted to grow junior tennis in San Diego and make it accessible to all local youth.
The Barnes Junior Tennis Center was built in 1995 thanks to the vision of Homer Peabody, George E. Barnes and so many others who wanted to create a unique junior tennis enterprise in San Diego -- a place where junior players have priority over adults and everyone could gather to learn the game, and its values.
Through its signature outreach program, The YTSD After School Tennis Program (AST), Founded by Kathy Chabot Willette, YTSD brings coaches to local rec-centers and neighborhood schools, ensuring accessibility and a diverse population. Players learn important life skills, including the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, fitness, communication and leadership. Over 90% of the participants qualify for financial assistance.
Like other non-profits, Youth Tennis has been impacted by COVID-19, and its resulting financial realities. Your generosity and compassion allows us to provide programming and scholarships to kids/teens during this uncertain time.
